As I mentioned in my first post, I started domain investing two years ago (mid-2022). Today, I’d like to share some of the early domains I picked up—and honestly, most of them were pretty shitty! 😅 Here’s a list of what I can still remember:
- FOGOFIT.COM
- pelegpt.com
- aicasinonews.com
- towerkitchen.com
- cateringcosts.com
- setupinstallation.com
- cozygpt.com
- dentalecosystems.com
- aiempowering.com…and lots more.
All of these were hand-registered from deleted domain drops. For me, most of these names were useless, and I ended up dropping about 40% of my entire portfolio the following year.
The Gem Among the “Shitty” Domains
Even though most of my early picks weren’t great, I was able to find a gem like : (Aidietplan.com) in which I’m currently building something exciting with it and can’t wait for everyone to see what we building on it because its something that have never been done before and also a problem that have been in existence for a very longtime in Nigeria and across the African Countries. It’s proof that even in a batch of bad domains, you can stumble upon something worthwhile.
What I Learned from My First Year
In my first year, I was overly excited and picked up too many domains without much strategy. Now, I’ve shifted my focus to:
- Choosing domains in niches I understand instead of registering random domains ,i now concentrate on domains related like (Fitness, health).
- Developing domains to generate traffic.
- Exploring ways to connect businesses to the right audiences using these domains.
I’m still learning this industry, but I’ve slowed down on picking up domains and am focused on improving my skills to select better names and make profitable investments.
Your Turn!
What was the first domain you picked up when you started domaining? How many did you drop? From the list of my dropped domains, is there any name you think I should have kept? Let me know in the comments below. Let’s learn and grow together!
First name i picked up was gatewayingreen.com lol😂…started early 2023 aswell…dropped most name i picked up…i think you could have kept cozygpt and aiempowering…might not be quick flips buh might be worth something to a reseller, say low to mid $XXX
Hi Kingsley,
It’s great to see a fellow domainer here! Yes, I was also thinking I should have kept Aiempowering.com. Seeing that EmpoweringAi.com sold last year on Atom.com for $2,749 really shows how valuable the keyword is.
If I may ask, Kingsley, where are you from? How has your journey been since you started domain investing? What challenges have you faced or are still facing? How many sales have you made so far, and could you share the size of your current portfolio?
Also, I’m curious—how did you get to know about the Layidomain.com blog?
I’m asking all of this so we can learn from each other’s mistakes and maybe even solve some of the challenges we newbies face together as a team—haha! This is one of the main reasons we created the Layi Domains blog: to build a community where we can solve problems together and grow as domain investors.
