5 BTC or MUSIC.COM Domain? A Domaining Dilemma

Google keywords planner result for "Music"

Hey everyone,

I wrote this blog post on Tuesday, March 31st. I wasn’t planning on releasing a blog post last month (March) because it’s the holy month of Ramadan. As a Muslim, I’ve been busy fasting, praying, and keeping the month sacred. Even so, I’ve still been in the domaining game every day, learning more about the industry, reading NamePros old blog posts, listening to Ishmilly’s Brand Hacking space on X every Saturday, and checking NameBio and DNJournal to see what end users and domain investors are buying. Speaking of domains, I recently stumbled upon a thought provoking dilemma: would you choose 5 BTC or the MUSIC.COM domain?

The Spark

Today, while browsing NameBio, I came across the sale of Juliastonemusic.com for $1,010. While that sale was interesting, what really caught my attention was the keyword “Music.” It made me think about the value of music-related domains, especially premium ones like MUSIC.COM.

The Big Question: 5 BTC or MUSIC.COM Domain?

Now, here’s the dilemma: Would you rather take 5 BTC right away, or be offered the iconic MUSIC.COM domain?

For some context:

  • According to Google Keyword Planner, the keyword “Music” gets between 1M–10M global searches per month with a CPC of about $1.36 (See image below)

  • At the time of writing, 1 BTC was valued at around $83,868, meaning 5 BTC is roughly $419,349.(See chart below).

On one hand, accepting 5 BTC would give you an instant windfall of approximately $419,349. On the other hand, being offered the MUSIC.COM domain presents a unique opportunity. The MUSIC.COM domain could be developed into a powerful asset in the multibillion-dollar music industry—but that path would require significant work and long-term investment. (developing domains for long-term value)

So, What Would You Choose?

Imagine this: Would you prefer an immediate payout of about $419,349, or would you opt for the chance to leverage the iconic MUSIC.COM domain to generate long-term, recurring income? It’s the classic case of instant wealth versus long-term value.

So, would you take the immediate $419,349 or invest in the potential of the MUSIC.COM domain for long term gains in the music industry?

Drop your thoughts in the comments below—let’s spark a conversation about this domaining dilemma!
